I’m one of the founders of Reel Black Life which basically means this passion project has taken over my free time… and honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I’ve spent more than 30 years in the UK TV & Film industry as a Sound Technician, so listening to stories and the people behind them is second nature to me. We all get a short moment on this planet but every one of us has a narrative worth hearing. That’s what keeps me curious'The Oral Tradition’.

In my downtime:Theatre goer. Reclining chair movie watcher. Part-time tree hugger. Full-time bathroom singer and unrelenting Chicken and Roti 'nyamer', especially when in Guyana.

Orin and I have been developing Reel Black Life for quite a while. I have spent a large part of my life in the film industry as a Boom Operator and 2nd Unit Sound Mixer. Long enough to know my way around a set and all the characters you meet there. So naturally I supervise the sound for our RBL podcasts, which keeps me happily surrounded by microphones.

In my spare time you will usually find me in the cinema or creating and arranging my own music. Hiring session musicians can easily empty your bank account so I started experimenting with AI. With the right prompts, which can take some serious detective work, I have managed to bring my lyrics to life.

Now that Reel Black Life is up and running with the support of some wonderful collaborators, my hope is that we inspire people of colour to hold on to their dreams. Keep moving forward, believe in yourself, and trust that what you imagine can become real.

Now we have Reel Black Life up and running with the help of great collaborators, I hope we help people of colour know that you should never give up on your dreams. Always move forward and believe in yourself.

Queenie aka The Netball Queen! A lifelong netball enthusiast, Queenie embraces life from a new perspective, living by the mantra to 'do what you can while you can’. The music, energy, and vibrancy of carnival feeds my spirit, and because I love my food, trying new ways to keep fit is an ongoing hobby! My career in finance paid the bills, but the opportunity to work with a charity encouraging young people to reach their full potential is where real job satisfaction lies.

I’m thrilled to be joining the team and can’t wait to chat with guests, giving a platform and voice to Reel Black Life.

in 2000, I moved from Dublin to London. I’d always wanted to be a screenwriter, but before heading down that road, I wanted a solid technical grounding in filmmaking. With a background in radio, I applied to be a sound trainee, which is where I met Orin, who trained me as a Boom Operator. In 2017, I began the MSc Screenwriting course at the London Film School and graduated the following year. The themes that matter to me, and often find their way into my scripts, include climate, injustice, neurodiversity, women’s health, and mental health. In my spare time, I build Rokr model kits (wooden Lego, essentially) and watch films.

For Reel Black Life, I support the admin and project management side of things. While trying to get my film career off the ground, I worked in all kinds of office-based admin roles to keep myself afloat. I believe this is a moment where sharing our stories and experiences matters more than ever. Through Reel Black Life, I hope we can bring people together, learn from one another, and build a community that nurtures and supports everyone involved.

A multimedia designer specialising in both pre & post production, as part of Reel Black Life I am one of the leading creative voices behind the company’s branding, marketing, editing, and design.

Exploring and showcasing black identity is the driving force behind all my projects, as is my passion for visual storytelling, video games, and deep love of comics. Working with Reel Black Life gives me the ideal platform to develop, expand, and champion that vision.

I’ve always had a strong interest in the creative side of media, even though my professional path hasn’t always placed me directly in

front of it. That curiosity has shaped my journey from working on the financial side of production companies, to producing a couple of

short films, collaborating with Colin and Orin on events, and supporting two truly inspiring figures: Menelik Shabazz, creator of BFM,

and Charles Thompson MBE, founder of Screen Nation.

While my background has largely been administrative, I’m now fully embracing my passion for media as part of the Reel Black Life

team. My role here is varied and evolving, allowing me to contribute across different areas while being part of a creative community I

genuinely believe in.
